How many days in Prague in 2026?

Three full days in Prague is the minimum that feels like a trip rather than a stopover. Day one: the Old Town, Charles Bridge, Malá Strana. Day two: the castle in the morning, while you can still breathe up there. Day three: the Jewish Quarter or Vinohrady, a beer and a rest.

A fourth day is worth it only if you actually leave the city. Kutná Hora fits into an easy day. Karlštejn works as a half day. Český Krumlov needs a full one, and in 2026 it is still a bad idea to squeeze it in after a midday landing.

August is hot and the bridge is crowded. Going out early, or taking a private car up to the castle, saves you the part that turns Prague into a queue of selfie sticks.

Three days: the minimum plan

• Day one, the right bank. Old Town, the astronomical clock, the Jewish Quarter and Wenceslas Square. It is all walking, so do it while your legs are fresh.
• Day two, the left bank. The castle in the morning, Malá Strana, and Charles Bridge before ten or after five. In the middle of the day the bridge is an advanced queue.
• Day three, the local Prague. Vyšehrad with its river view, a market in Vinohrady, Petřín hill with the funicular, and an evening in a restaurant whose menu is not translated into five languages.

Four days: add one day out of town

A fourth day is your chance to leave, not to see another square. Kutná Hora is the easiest option: an hour of driving, two strong sites, an early return. Karlštejn works as a half day if you also want a free evening. Bohemian Paradise suits anyone travelling with children who need to move.

Five days and more

This is where Český Krumlov fits without straining the trip. It needs a full day, including two and a half hours of driving each way, so it belongs where there is room. With six days you can add Dresden too, and then you have a two-country trip without changing hotels.

What not to try to cram in

• A day trip on arrival day. If you land at midday, spend the afternoon walking the city. A day outside Prague straight after a flight is a good way to burn the whole week's energy.
• Two distant destinations in one day. Karlovy Vary in the morning and Krumlov in the afternoon is five hours in the car and blurry photographs.
• Everything on foot. Prague looks small on the map and feels large in your shoes. Metro, tram or a car for part of the day adds a good two hours of usable time.

It also depends on the season

In August the days are long, so three days cover more. In December it is dark by half past four, the markets come alive in the evening, and an extra day stops you chasing. Spring and autumn are the comfortable middle: enough light, slightly fewer people.
